1. Thank you Students, Volunteers and Staff for a Charged STEAM Day!

The students started the day with a Keynote address from engineer and Motorcycle Racer, Jessica Soodeen.  Our students asked innovative questions delving into Math and Science related themes right off the start.  Students were challenged during the day with support and encouragement from parent volunteers and teachers and by the end of the day were racing cars down a steep pitch to test if their Smiley-Faced Eggs could survive a crash.  The cars are on display in our front foyer and we welcome everyone to come and take a peek!

2. School and Homeschool Registration

School and Homeschool Registration for next year is now open for current families and please note, unlike other CBE schools, we do not have an automatic roll-over of students.  Our families register each and every year.  We will be guaranteeing our current Shared-Responsibility Families a seat for next year before March 15.  Starting on March 15 we will be signing up new families in order to complete our staffing for the new school year by the CBE’s April deadline. Please, if you think you will be returning, register now.  It is a very difficult conversation to let a family know in April, May or June that the class they are looking for is now full.  Register Here!

7. Homeschool Facilitations and Parent Progress Reports

Please book your Mid-Year Homeschool Facilitation with your Homeschool Facilitator!  Mid-Year Facilitations will be taking place February 12, 18-21 and there will be no Classes at Windsor Park School on these days.  We do want to see you in-person wherever and whenever possible and most meetings should take 20-60 minutes depending on how many outcomes are being taken up at home versus at school (if you are shared-responsibility).  Please submit your Parent Homeschool Progress Report to your facilitator before or at your Facilitation Appointment.  Our preference is that you document your child's progress anecdotally alongside your Formal Homeschool Learning Plan.  We do have samples that parents have given us permission to share in our Parent Library at Windsor Park School.

Ideas for how to prepare and what to expect in your Homeschool Facilitation:

  • Have your child choose 1-2 samples of their work from the core subjects (Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies) and parent(s) choose 1-2 samples in those areas that show growth in learning, where did your child start at and what does their work look like now?
  • Upload photos, videos, or scan samples of work onto Google Drive and share it with your facilitator.
  • Create a digital slide presentation of student’s work to share during the facilitation.
  • Remember, there is not enough time in 20-60 minutes to see everything your child has done. The facilitator is not "marking" the work.  Let your child show their facilitator what they are proud of or excited to share!
  • Choose items that give the facilitator an idea of a variety of subjects and types of learning they are engaged in.
  • Have the items for sharing ready to go at the start of the meeting.
  • Practice with your child, have them tell you about the items they chose.
  • Leave some time at the end of the meeting to go over any questions or concerns.

8. Calgary City Teachers’ Convention

Feb 13-14 – No Classes at Windsor Park School

9. CBE Shared Responsibility Report Cards

Will be live on Monday, January 27 –  Go to your MYCBE Account to see your child's Report Card.  CBE no longer prints report cards unless there are extenuating circumstances.

10. Thank You!

Thank you to all families who were able to attend the Meeting on January 22 regarding the Proposed Closure for Relocation for CBE Home Education.  Please see our website for further information.

Wishing Everyone a Wonderful Weekend Ahead!
