CBE Home Education may be exclusively done in the home, or combined in the home and in a school setting at the Bel-Aire School location. Home Education offices and classes operate Monday to Thursday.

Any family who is a resident of the Calgary Board of Education may register with CBE Home Education Program.  Alberta Homeschoolers able to meet for a face-to-face meeting three times per year may also register with CBE Home Education.  We do have families from Okotoks, Cochrane, Airdrie and other towns near Calgary.

This program is designed for families who wish to be responsible for offering a program of studies for their child by developing, administering, managing and evaluating the progress of their student, and maintaining a record of those studies.

Through our Bel-Aire School location, CBE Home Education provides families with:

  • eight spacious activity/classrooms (equipped with computers and wireless accessible)
  • wireless Internet throughout
  • large hall space and showcases to display projects/student work
  • learning commons
  • project room
  • gymnasium
  • stage
  • lunchroom program
  • meeting space
  • playground facilities:
    • students are encouraged to demonstrate proper respect and to display appropriate positive behaviour
    • activities such as tobogganing, tubing, crazy carpeting and sledding are not permitted on School Board properties

The Calgary Board of Education is committed to providing and supporting flexible, personalized learning experiences for all children and families. Through our Bel-Aire School location, we offer both a parent-directed and a shared responsibility program to families who wish to be responsible for developing, administering, managing and evaluating a program of educational studies for their child.

For inquiries about registering, please contact Assistant Principal, Carrie Rowlandson at cerowlandson@cbe.ab.ca

"Every child in Calgary has a designated school based on their home address and the program they choose. You can apply to attend any school, even if it is not your designated school." Calgary Board of Education Website

We are proud of our Home Education program and appreciate working with families who have chosen to build options and opportunities for learning success within the CBE.

School Development Plan

Each year, our school prepares a development plan with input from teachers, school staff, students and parents. We review many sources of data, including report cards, provincial achievement test results and school surveys. Based on this information, we create our plan identifying targeted areas for growth. Our school development plan is not meant to represent all of the work that takes place in our school, but rather it focuses on specific areas for improvement.

School Improvement Results Report

Our school also prepares a results plan, which looks at our previous school year. It shows our students’ achievement and progress in meeting the goals and outcomes as set out by the CBE and Alberta Education, outlines some of the highlights of our school development plan and gives an overview of our school. You can look on the CBE website for system-wide results.
