Dear Families,
We hope you all had a wonderful Spring Break. We are hearing lots of great stories of your time away and it sounds like our families were enjoying local, national and international adventures, as well as, taking some much needed downtime.
Please Note: There are lots of students getting excited about the Entrepreneurial Fair running from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on May 10 at Windsor Park School. Students will be completing a "Business Plan" in order to register for this event. The Business Plan Template will be sent home with your child if they attend classes at Windsor Park School and there will also be one sent via email to all 100% Homeschooling Families. Stay Tuned.
Precautions for the Solar Eclipse on Monday, April 8
On Monday, April 8 a partial solar eclipse will be visible in Calgary. The solar event will begin just before noon and conclude by 2:00 p.m., with the maximum coverage occurring at 12:43 p.m. We know that this unique event provides a unique learning experience for students and staff; however, there can be serious damage to vision as a result of viewing the eclipse in an unsafe manner. We will be refraining from allowing students exposure to this event. We will be keeping all students indoors during class time, over recess and lunch breaks, as well as, away from windows to the outside between the hours of 11:50 a.m. – 1:50 p.m. It is unsafe to look at the partial eclipse through unfiltered glasses, cameras, telescopes, binoculars or any other optical device. Curious students may not fully understand the danger of viewing the eclipse and the potential damage to their vision caused by viewing the harmful rays of the sun. Viewing a partial eclipse does not cause immediate pain which would typically cause the viewer look away. Instead, permanent eye damage is sustained without any immediate signs, until it is too late. Although the documentation on safe partial solar eclipse viewing includes pinhole cameras, we will not be playing with these cameras during this eclipse event. For more safety information can be found on the NASA website or from the Canadian Association of Optometrists. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.
April 11, 2024 at 10:00 am. “Executive Functioning: Activities to Help Build Working Memory and Processing Speed”
In this short webinar, we will look at the sub-types of Executive Functioning. We will explore everyday games and activities that can help build attentional control, cognitive inhibition and working memory as well as learn why these skills are critical for many students, especially those with diverse learning profiles. Presenter: Suzanne Diermann
Suzanne is a Literacy Intervention Specialist, former classroom teacher and structured literacy advocate. In her private Orton Gillingham practice, she teaches students with learning differences, Dyslexia and struggling readers and writers. Through her OG work, she has identified the need for EF development in many of her students. Pairing intensive, systematic literacy intervention and executive functioning skills means that students demonstrate more notable progress in learning, retention and regulation.

Provincial Achievement Tests for Grade 6 and 9 Students
Over the Spring Break, Alberta Education (The Branch of Government that makes decisions regarding Education in Alberta), announced that Provincial Achievement Tests (PAT's) for GRADE 6 ELA and Grade 6 Math will not be occurring in 2024. A letter was sent home to grade 6 and 9 students advising of our schedule at Windsor Park School in Mid-March. We require an email from all grade 6 and 9 Families advising us if their children are writing PAT's and, if so, which PAT's they will write. This is so that we have all of the exams, computers and spaces as required. If you have a child in Grade 6 or 9, please read and respond to the attached letter. The updated Exam Schedule is also found there. PAT Parent Guardian Letter 2024
