Thank you to all families for helping to keep mobile devices at home! We have had to remind a couple of students that we have an, “Away for the Day” policy, but, for the most part, students are being respectful of the province’s new policy. Thank you!
Thank you to Ms. Jaylyn and all of our Cross-Country Runners! You were incredible representatives for our school and we loved cheering you all on! Thank you to all the families who also came out to cheer on all of the kids!
September 30 Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
We hope everyone was able to participate in the events around Calgary on Monday, September 30th, Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day recognizes the tragic legacy of residential schools, the missing children, the families left behind and the survivors of residential schools. If you are looking for further activities to include in your homeschool program, there are lots of great ideas for families here à Calls To Action for Students
October 1 and 2 CBE Shared Responsibility Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation’s Calls To Action: Classes will be participating in classroom activities including learning about Canada’s 94 Calls To Action: Canada’s Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, wearing orange shirts for the week to spread awareness and other school-wide activities being organized by Ms. Wendy and her Student Voice team.
October 1 and 2 School Photo Days
Students attending classes at Windsor Park School will be rotated through photos between 9:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. 100% homeschoolers are welcome to pop into the gym anytime between 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. The photographer generally takes a lunch-break from 12:00-12:30 p.m. and there will be no line-ups from 12:30-3:00 p.m. (a good time for 100% homeschoolers to come and get their photos taken).
October 2 Homeschool 101 Workshop
Join us on Wednesday, October 2 from 10:00 - 11:30 AM in the Windsor Park School Family Flex Room: Are you looking for some tips on planning, routines/schedules and how to deal with common homeschooling challenges? Join us for an informal presentation, connect with other parents, share ideas, and gain support to make this your best year yet!
Library Volunteers
Please let Lyndsay and Carley know you are interested in volunteering by emailing them at: homeedlibrary@gmail.com
A note from Lyndsay and Carley
It's an exciting time for our little library, and we're looking forward to having a team of volunteers who can help with processing books, shelving, organizing, reading to students and fundraising! We have a quick 20-minute training for new volunteers. If you are interested in being trained (or get a refresher!) please drop by the library on a Wednesday either before or after school, and/or email back and we can find a time to meet! We will be hosting a Library Work Party Blitz sometime in the next few weeks (more details to come!) but we always have a need for help - even 5 minutes whenever you have time is great! We're also looking for a Monday/Tuesday parent who would be interested in helping train new volunteers, if possible.
- October 14 – Happy Thanksgiving! – No Classes at Windsor Park School
- October 28 – October 31 – There will be a blend of Harvest and Halloween activities throughout the school for this week. Everything from hypothesizing the number of seeds in a squash, classroom activities, a Pumpkin Carving Contest and a costume parade. It has been a tradition at Windsor Park School to have a Haunted House for students to go through, however, we currently do not have a parent/guardian volunteer to put together a Haunted House. If we do not have a parent/guardian take this on for this year, we won’t have the haunted house. We do encourage students, if they would like, to dress up on either Tuesday, October 29 or Thursday, October 31. No Props please (no swords, guns, knives, hammers, shields, etc.) “But Ms. Rowlandson, it’s made out of cardboard.” “But Ms. Rowlandson, it’s only pretend.” “But Ms. Rowlandson I won’t hurt anyone with it.” "But Ms. Rowlandson, Why...." It’s often a friend that gets hold of the prop and, in the exuberance of the moment, someone gets hurt, so thank you families for ensuring props don’t come to school.
