Dear Families,

Coming up in this issue:  Thank you’s; Calgary Food Bank Collection of coins; Volunteers Needed; Vendee Globe; Lost and Found Table; Bottle Drive; Fun Lunches; STEAM Day Registration (Capped at 200 students);

Thank you to Ms. Corrina, the Band Students and the Band Families!

Band Camp was a great success with clinicians, Parent Volunteer Support, Mr. Paul and Ms. Jaylyn’s enthusiasm and encouragement and the 36 students who took risks and improved in incredible ways!  Ms. Corrina has been planning this camp for ages and the student feedback was, “Can we do this again and can we go for a week next time!”  Also, the Band Concerts that took place in Mid-December were a great success!  The students are refining and polishing their skills and also bonding as a group and the music they are making is a delight!  Great Job Ms. Corrina and our Band Students!

Thank you to Mr. Paul, Staff and Parent/Guardian Volunteers who made our, “Night of the Osprey,” a huge success!  Over 50 student performers, 288 in attendance, Theo, Phin and Emmett working the stage, sound and tech backstage, all staff helping with various parts of the evening and Mr. Paul putting in hours with rehearsals, programming and the little details created a memorable evening for all in attendance.  Also to note, we had more parent/guardian volunteers than we have ever had for this evening!  From School Set-Up, Decorations, Potluck organization, Art Display, Photo Backdrop, Front Doors, Ushers and Clean-Up crews, we thank all of our parents/guardians who were able to help volunteer for the evening.

Calgary Food Bank

Your children can still bring some coins (or bills) for our money drive for the Calgary Food Bank.  We will be taking the collection box in on Thursday after school this week.

Thank you to our Volunteers and Volunteers Needed

Thank you to all of the families who are helping in so many capacities at CBE Home Education!  From our dedicated School Council to our keen Fundraisers, to the families helping make the Friday events happen, we are so grateful for your time and enthusiasm.  Thank you!  Please note: We are currently looking for volunteers to help with Fun Lunch Distribution on Weds/Thursdays for the coming months.  If this is something you’d like to help with, please contact Parent Volunteer Christa at Christa.Patzer@hotmail.com

The Vendee Globe

The Vendee Globe is the greatest sailing challenge in the world often referred to as the Everest of the seas.  It is a single-handed, non-stop, non-assisted round-the-world sailing race that takes place every four years.  Of 200 participants who have been approved to race in the past 9 Vendee Globes, 114 have finished.  Solo racers are confronted with freezing cold, mammoth waves and heavy skies that sweep the southern hemisphere.  As you can imagine, the learning, conversations, math and science content and excitement can be catching for its audience.  You may have seen our world map outside of the main office where we are keeping track of the sailors (2 para-athletes, a 23 year-old youngest ever, a 65 year-old on his 6th Vendee, etc, etc, each with their own stories), their boats and the adventures along the three to four months of this race.  You may have also been hearing from your children coming home with stories that have been taken up in classes.  We encourage you to take a look at some of the educational pages at home if you are looking to enrich your own homeschool programming and/or take a look at each Skipper’s “Project” which identifies other work to which the sailors are committed.
