Learning Commons at the CBE
Today’s learners cannot imagine life without the internet and supporting technology. The concept of the traditional library is changing to include technology, online tools and spaces for collaboration and exploration.
School Literary Materials Selection
Related to Ministerial Order (#034/2025), Standards for the Selection, Availability, and Access of School Library Materials, CBE has published an administrative regulation AR3051: School Literary Materials Selection. Families and community members can request a review or reconsideration of a literary resource in a school's learning commons by completing the School Library Materials Reconsideration Challenge Request through their local school.
CBE also has an eLibrary online tool available to families, students and staff, which is an online catalogue for all CBE school libraries with detailed information on books, DVD’s and other resources that are available to borrow.
Additionally, parents and legal guardians are welcome to review classroom library collections by contacting your child's school.
Our Learning Commons
The Bel-Aire Professional Resource Library is now open! Located in the Family Flex Room, we offer collection of homeschooling resources, teaching materials, and books curated to support your educational endeavours.
Here's a brief guide to what the library offers:
- Reference Books: Materials marked DO NOT REMOVE cannot be checked out and are reserved for in-library use. These are costly, sought-after titles that were challenging to acquire, and by keeping them in the library, we hope that as many people as possible will be able to benefit from them. These books are intended for parents to preview in order to decide if they wish to buy them for their own use.
- Decodable Readers (Located in the boxes on the bottom shelf): These books are specially designed for use with developing readers. Each bundle of Decodable Readers contains a check-out card. When borrowing, please print your name on this card and place it in the designated card box. These books may be taken home for a maximum of 2 weeks. Please do not write in these books. Feel free to photocopy as needed for personal use.
- Borrowable Books: These books can be taken home for 2 weeks. We operate on an honour system, without a formal check-out process, to ensure these resources circulate among as many families as possible. Please remember, these books are not intended for long-term use and we trust that they will be returned within 2 weeks!
Many of the resources in our library have been generously donated by members of our homeschooling community. Some have been purchased using Bel-Aire funds to support homeschooling families. We welcome continued donations to further enhance our collection. Your integrity in using and sharing these materials is crucial. The honour system we employ relies on your kindness and respect for our guidelines, fostering a supportive and thriving homeschooling environment.
Thank you for being an integral part of this initiative. Together, we create a richer, more diverse learning experience for our children.
